In view of World Environment Day falling on June 05, 2026, the World Environment Day Commemoration Programme—jointly organized by the Wariyapola Pradeshiya Sabha and the North Western Province Environmental Authority—is proposed to be held on June 5th in Wariyapola town, centered around the "Green City" concept. This aligns with this year's global main theme, 'Urgent Climate Action', and the timely concept of 'Urbanization and Climate Change: Building Resilient Cities for a Sustainable Future'

 in this context, a "Green City" does not merely refer to a town with planted trees, but rather a city designed to maintain ecological balance, minimize environmental pollution, and provide a high quality of life for the public through sustainable development goals.
